OK all.
I can't tell you how appreciative I am of your contributions in assisting me to weigh up wintering in Spain.

Straight to the point.

I'm too windy on my first excursion to tow-ferry-tow through France down to you. Instead, I've booked everything through the Camping and Caravan club. I've followed their winter sun comic and booked all the sites along the way including the ferry from Poole to Cherbourg. I'm only pulling for 200miles plus or minus each day and spreading it over a week there and a week back. I've joined a rally in Castillo de Banos. If it's within striking distance I'll come and have a meal there,

I wouldn't pay you all the discourtesy of just grabbing all your help and then disappearing.

So, I'm afraid it's adios. Hasta la vista.

Thanks again.

Best regards.  Peter.

I've witnessed many a forum going west on account of software and system shortcomings, plus cost and time, moderatingetc. The age old problem also with forums is the divs who just be a pain bullying.
I, for one, wouldn't even have dreamed of booking onto the site (caravan that is) without the warm response I've had from contributors to this forum.
FACEBOOK!  :-\ . Unsocial media. I had to use it for the benefit of my overseas students who were censored on line but, as soon as I retired I ditched it. I have a life. (I'm not suggesting that facebook subscribers don't, of course ;) ;) )
I fully understand the reason for winding down the forum, pity though it would be. You hombres have been terrific.

Best regards

P.

Okey Dokey, campers. Just to prove I haven't totally wasted the time of all the generous contributors with gold dust of advice....I'm on the verge of booking. I've fired a note off to the official channel.
We're not ready to go autumn to spring yet, so, I'm gonna go for February to April ish to see how we get on. I'm pretty well resolved to go from Anglesey where we live to Plymouth and then to Santander with a stop on the way down to you.
If anyone can see anything wrong with that I'd be more than appreciative. I suppose we could come mid January to before Easter if the Easter period is a problem. The earliest I can get my van serviced to preserve the guarentee is 6th. January.
Thanks for all your help up to now. Best regards. Peter

Righty oh, all. You've certainly gone to some trouble to help me. I've read the letters off the posts gleening the host of tips freely given.
I'm resolved to take the ferry to Bilbao and tow down Spain. I'll do some more homework on waystays. Is there a"one size fits all" sequence of stops that people such as myself use. Bear in mind I won't be able to park on a tanner. How many stops is the recommended norm?
I fear I've thrown a degree of confusion in as regards the LPG thing. My motor is a petrol engined vehicle that has an LPG conversion. It'll run on either petrol or LPG. As LPG is half the price of petrol and (with the wife's idea of weight economy- my motor's towing capacity is three and a half tonnes, she thinks that's the target weight- we do about one mpg) obviously, that's a considerable factor when planning a journey. There are sites locating the LPG stations but, wich would be the main drag of choice from Bilbao/Santander(any preference between those two ports?)
I haven't, as yet, done an exhaustive scan of your website but I guess there'll be a map of the plots somewhere. Can a plot be booked in advance, if so, any recommendations bearing in mind the sunny side of the street and late homecomers in the early hours.
It seems that more months spent, the better. I hear what you'resaying about the snows. Our seasonalsite closes at the end of October and we tour around a bit just before so I gues I'll be heading for erly November and, Judging from what it's like here at the moment, miss the Easter panic either before or after.

I can't thank you people enough. Just a matter of working out the cash, dogs' passports and timing.

Very best regards

Peter.

Well, you guys have got the ball rolling for me. Thanks. The reason I didn't ask a specific question is that I didn't know where to start.

We tour around UK out of season and site our van over the "summer" season. What I'd like to try is to spend the milder winter months along with you.

You've picked up on a couple of my concerns, namely, drive through France vs. the ferry to bilbao. I gather there are dog friendly cabins. Our towing vehicle is lpg dual fuel so the tunnel is immediately ruled out. Then, there's the question of LPG service stations through France and Spain. Has anyone used the services of the caravanning clubs to plan routes and way stops ? Is there such a thing as a "dummies guide to caravanning from the UK to southern Spain" that you know of ? If I elect to drive through France, which is the most painless ferry route ?

I'm happy towing but keen not to get involved with drive-on-the-right-gymnastics through major towns and cities before I've got my wings.

I would definately rule out leaving my van in storage for the summer months so, when does the silly season start and end site-wise and traffic-wise ?

I've no doubt judging from the response I've had thus far that yours is the site I'll head for so, I'd be looking to turn up, say, during November and stay till, say, end of Frebruary depending on the advice I get here.

I've started burbling ans rambling so you can see why I didn't try to post all my questions at once.

Thanks for the welcome.

Very best regards.

Peter

Hola todos,
I've done a search and haven't come up with what I thought would have been a plethora of advice and tips. If I've missed it or posted in the wrong department, lo siento.

We live in Anglesey and have two well behaved spaniels.

I'm sure you can forecast every single question we have as first time winter caravaners.

Anyone who does the trip please could you pile as much advice on me as possible.

best regards all,

Peter
